Are you interested in planning, designing, constructing and maintaining such facilities as buildings, bridges, water supply systems, waste treatment systems, road and rail networks, air and sea ports? Than Bachelor Programme of Civil Engineering is just for you!

WIDE RANGE OF KNOWLEDGE

At VIA Civil Engineering you will get a solid understanding of the entire construction process and get a chance to work with engineering-related tasks.

ABOUT EDUCATION

The Bachelor Programme of Civil Engineering provides you with skills and knowledge needed to manage structural calculations, drawings, soil mechanics, road design and calculations.

Civil engineering is an international profession that involves the design, construction, operation and improvement of the built environment.

TECHNICAL MANAGERS

Civil engineers provide the technical expertise and management skills to plan, design, construct and maintain such facilities as buildings, bridges, water supply systems, waste treatment systems, road and rail networks, air and sea ports in a sustainable manner to reduce the impact on the environment.

SUBJECT AREAS

You will be taught how to design and perform construction. In all 7 semesters, you will work with projects that become increasingly influenced by your own choices.

CONTENT, STRUCTURE AND SPECIALISATION

The content of the first 3 semesters of the program is fixed. During the 4th semester, you can choose between 2 courses of study. The 5th semester involves an internship. During the 6th and 7th semester you can specialise, and in the 7th semester you will write your bachelor thesis.

  • 1st semester: Building Design – industrial building
  • 2nd semester: Town Development – infrastructure planning
  • 3rd semester: Structural Design – larger buildings
  • 4th semester: Choose between ‘Building’ or ‘Civil Works’ in open areas.
  • 5th semester: Internship
  • 6th and 7th semester: Specialisations. Here you can choose between ‘Structural Design’, ‘Civil Works’ or ‘Energy Design’.
  • 7th semester: Bachelor thesis.

INTERNSHIP

One important aspect of programme is the opportunity to put classroom theories into practice by having one or more periods of internship. You can either go abroad or stay in Denmark for your internship period.

TRAINING AT PUBLIC OR PRIVATE COMPANY

No matter what you study, you will have the chance to get practical training in a company or in public administration. There, you can learn things there that can not be taught in a classroom.

COOPERATION WITH BUSINESSES

We have an excellent cooperation with local businesses when it comes to internship. They appreciate the trainees from Civil Engineering.

LEARNING STYLE

The teaching philosophy includes a combination of theory lessons, assignments and project work. You will primarily learn theory through practical assignments, case studies and project work.

This concept develops qualifications within:

  • design,
  • technology,
  • management.

And personal competences such as:

  • communicative skills,
  • skills within coordination and cooperation,
  • team work skills,
  • management skills,
  • analytical skills,
  • quality attitude.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

The flexibility of the programme and the variety of electives allow you to create the degree that will prepare you for the career you want.

As a Civil Engineer, you will have the ability to work in:

  • bridge and road construction,
  • port construction,
  • industrial construction,
  • housing or geothermal,
  • solar heating.

JOB AREAS

As a Civil Engineer you may find jobs in areas such as management of projects, including:

  • financial and legal aspects or highway engineering,
  • infrastructure,
  • traffic,
  • soil mechanics,
  • harbor engineering.

If you have chosen structural design as your specialization you will work on design and calculations of structures in concrete, steel timber and masonry.

FOCUS AREAS

You could also work in areas with focus on:

  • groundwater,
  • sewage systems,
  • streams and lakes.

BE SELF-EMPLOYED

Existing companies are not the only place you can find a job: some structural engineers who graduate choose to start their own companies. That way you can choose to work with precisely the areas of engineering you find most exciting.

FURTHER EDUCATION

When you graduate as a Civil Engineer, you will have an excellent opportunity for further education on a Master’s level abroad as well as in Denmark.
