As an AP Graduate in Multimedia Design, you can single-handedly design, plan, implement and manage multimedia tasks.

You will be able to produce digital user interfaces, primarily within the context of websites, by doing thorough user research, understand how digitisation affects businesses and users, create rich and user-friendly interfaces and code and programme functionality.

In the programme you will work within five subject areas: user interface development, user experiences, content production, business and technology. You will learn to bridge the gap between technical, problem solving and creative skills through management of development processes.

As an AP Graduate in Multimedia Design, you may find work in the field of IT and media. Future job titles could be e.g. front-end developer, web designer or UX-designer.

You can also apply for admission to one of our top-up programmes, earning you a bachelor’s degree after an additional 1½ years of study. Please note that admission in some cases is limited.


The programme in Multimedia Design has a duration of two years and contains both mandatory and elective programme elements.


Lectures usually take place between 8:30 and 15:30. On a typical day you will have one subject in the morning and another in the afternoon.

You will alternate between lectures, group work and presentations in front of the class. Part of the lectures are spent on guidance to give you and your study group discipline-specific help to do your assignments. This allows you to have close contact with your lecturers.

All lecturing is organised in themes with assignments for each theme.

To support cross-disciplinary learning, all subjects of the study programme are usually taught during each theme. Many assignments are done on behalf of a business or institution to give you a firm grasp of real-life assignments while you are still a student.

During the course of the study programme you will also receive individual guidance.

Study activity

You should expect a full work week. Apart from lectures, guidance and group work, you must also read literature and practice a variety of skills.

You will also be given the opportunity to complete voluntary assignments, where you apply your knowledge and skills to gain important experience and competencies.


Work professionally on relevant problems within Multimedia Design and achieve practical knowledge through an internship

The 10 weeks internship (15 ECTS) takes place in the 4th semester in Denmark or abroad. During the internship, you will work on professionally relevant problems and achieve knowledge of relevant functions of the profession. You will be affiliated with one or more private or public companies during the internship.

The internship can be structured in a flexible and differentiated way and may form the starting point of your final examination project.

You and the company will agree on the financial terms of the internship.

In collaboration with the company and UCN you will determine the learning goals for the internship with the below-mentioned purposes as a starting point.

The purpose of the internship

For the student the purpose of the internship is:

  • to gain an insight into the demands and expectations companies have to the knowledge, skills and work attitudes of an AP Graduate of Multimedia Design.
  • to experience daily life and the tasks of the profession over a long period, to work on development-oriented assignments in practise in accordance with his or her learning goals.
  • to try out – and reflect – on the knowledge and the practical skills gained on the Multimedia Design programme.
  • to gain experience with new working methods and tools for solving specific tasks.

Furthermore possibly

  • for the student to generate ideas for the final examination project and find a possible foundation for it.

During the internship, you will be assigned an internship supervisor from the study programme and a contact person/supervisor from the company.

Whether or not the individual learning goals have been achieved will be evaluated at the internship exam.

The Study Activity Model

The Study Activity Model shows the activities that take place in a particular study programme. This means that you can see how much time you should expect to spend in each individual module on e.g. lectures and classes, study excursions and study trips, independent assignment work etc.

The Model divides all study activities into four overall categories:

  1. Participation by lecturers and students — initiated by a lecturer (readings, class lectures, academic advice sessions etc.)
  2. Participation by students — initiated by a lecturer (class meetings without a lecturer, study days, study excursions or study trips etc.)
  3. Participation by students — initiated by students (forum classes, presentation of products of students’ studies, theme days etc.)
  4. Participation by lecturers and students — initiated by students (self-directed study and preparatory work, creation of products of students’ studies etc.)

Reflective Practice-Based Learning

Common to all our programmes is the focus on educating you for the real world. Our slogan is “Real Life Education”, and we mean this very literally. You will at least be spending a term at a work placement, and we strive to continuously develop our curriculum in collaboration with the professions, we train for.

Another common feature is our great learning environment, in which classroom teaching is key. We combine the academic and social aspects of studying, hereby easing the transition to becoming an independent student. The interaction between theory and practice combined with personal reflection remains the absolute core of all our study programmes – and the basis of our learning approach Reflective Practice-Based Learning.

Getting ready for the future

In the course of your studies you will be inspired to be creative, to explore and to be innovative; and you will learn to look critically at your own learning, your experience, your knowledge and practice. You bring your own values and personality into play, and through reflecting on your own practice you develop your personal judgement and ability to act professionally.

In the study programme you will also be working closely together with your fellow students. You learn to share knowledge and to work towards a common goal together with others. In that way you build up an important reflective competence which is decisive for being innovative, independent and productive in the labour market of the future.


Everyday life is brimming with a multitude of international and Danish students and a pulse that generates energy and a special atmosphere

The Multimedia Design programme shares address with the other UCN technology-programmes in buildings with lots of room for ideas and creativity.

The buildings are divided into levels, which can be used for group work, reading and studying – or just hanging out.

The international programme attracts students from all over Europe.

Moving to a new city can be a tough and lonely experience, but since all assignments on Multimedia Design are solved in groups, you quickly get to know other students and find a ’safety zone’ within your class.

At the beginning of the programme your teachers will place you in groups – later on – when you are more familiar with your class mates, you’ll form groups yourselves.

Students at Multimedia Design have formed a “Creative Lab” with students from Graphic Design. Creative Lab arranges a number of sessions each semester, where students share their knowledge on particular subjects relevant to Multimedia Design with other students. These peer-to-peer sessions offer the opportunity to form relationships with students from all the Multimedia Design classes, across culture and semesters.

We have a tradition of a Friday Bar that opens on Fridays after 12 o’clock. The otherwise pulsating beat turns into a relaxed and social Friday-afternoon atmosphere that usually marks the beginning of an enjoyable weekend.

The school is in charge of theme events and parties during the year. 


There are several possibilities for giving your education an international twist

During the course of your education at UCN you can go abroad for a certain period of time. You can go on an internship abroad in one or more companies or you can take your studies abroad.

The two kinds of placements can even be combined so you can do both. Be aware that the time spent abroad may not prolong the total duration of your studies in Denmark, however.

Why go abroad?

Whether you choose to do an internship or to study abroad, you will no doubt develop — personally as well as professionally. You will broaden your horizons and develop your language and professional skills.

This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to challenge yourself, to increase and develop your intercultural competencies — and an opportunity to return enlightened and enriched.

You will also add an international dimension to your CV.

Most contemporary businesses need employees possessing intercultural competencies gained in today’s multi-cultural world.

An internship abroad will improve your ability to consider matters from an innovative and different perspective.

If you do your internship abroad you will get an insight into how a foreign business organisation operates and become part of another country’s culture. You will achieve language and intercultural competencies that you will never forget.

At the same time, you will also get a unique chance to create networks – very early on in your career – that are likely to come in handy in the future while expanding your knowledge of different businesses. An internship abroad will no doubt improve your career opportunities in Denmark and internationally.

You should know that it is your responsibility to find an internship host company. However, the International Coordinator at the International Office at your address is ready to offer advice and guidance on visa rules, grants applications, deadlines and much more.
