This is a top-up programme intended for graduates of Academy Profession Degree Programmes in Marketing Management or Service, Hospitality and Tourism Management. The top-up programme earns you a bachelor’s degree in International Hospitality Mangement with only 1½ years of additional study.
The programme will provide you with the competences to work in day-to-day operations, development, administration and management in an international work environment in the hospitality industry. A specialisation period will allow you to focus more deeply on either tourism, the hotel and restaurant industry or experience economy.
You will learn about management, strategy, economics, cultural awareness and customer relations. You will be provided with the tools to develop new markets and concepts, achieve an understanding of a company’s strategic challenges as well as the ability to handle the practical implementation and operation of a company strategy.
For Danish students, the first semester will be taught in Danish, before the programme continues taught fully in English from the second semester. For international students, all semesters are fully taught in English.
This means that Danish and international students study together from the second semester, giving you valuable intercultural competences as well as an international network.
As a Bachelor of International Hospitality Management, you may find employment as resort manager, marketing coordinator, destination manager, or sales manager etc.

The teaching and learning activities for the International Hospitality Management programme are a combination of class lectures, group work and project work that provide a solid basis for interaction between you, your fellow students and lecturers.
As it is UCN’s aim to provide real life education, our teaching and learning activities and assignments are orientated towards practice to give you practical competencies and enable you to translate theory into practical solutions.
We apply a learning approach called reflective practice-based learning, which, as the name indicates, is based on three fundamental elements:
You should be able to reflect on your own practice and be able to find new solutions. In practice you will learn to relate theoretical skills to the assignments you will be faced with in your future professional life. Teaching and learning activities are also practice-related to let you expand your knowledge and develop your professional skills and competencies.
We invite guest lecturers from the business community to make relevant contributions to lectures during the course of your studies.
The International Hospitality Management programme is a full-time study programme averaging 43 hours per week, but like most other higher education programmes this does not mean that there are 43 hours of teaching activities per week.
When there are no teaching activities, you are responsible for your own learning. This means that the remaining time, students actively acquire knowledge by reading the suggested reading materials to meet the learning objectives of each individual course unit and by doing project work. Stay in or go abroad – get experience through an internship on the International Hospitality Management programme
In the 3rd semester of the International Hospitality Management programme you will be doing an internship.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to build a network with the business community while testing your theoretical skills in a practical setting and developing personally.
Starting on 1 July or 1 August, the internship takes place over the course of 13 consecutive weeks.
You can stay in Denmark or go abroad for your internship.

An academic and social setting
At UCN we believe that a well-balanced blend of academic and social aspects form the optimal environment for and educational institution. This is why we strive to build an innovative and knowledge-generating environment characterised by high academic and social standards.
To live up to this ambition, the International Hospitality Management programme features a number of academic and social events such as short induction programmes for new students, company visits, guest lecturers, study trips, a sports cup and various festive and party events.
In addition to these events, the activities below are a regular part of the study environment at UCN’s International Hospitality Management programme:
Study trip in the second semester
In the second semester we will arrange a field trip for you and your classmates. The purpose of the trip is to give you new and international input from the hospitality sector as well as expand your academic knowledge.
The length of the trip may vary just and the destination changes from one year to the next. Among previous study trip destinations are places such as Miami, London, Italy and Dubai. Besides time for socialising with class mates, the trip features visits to 9–12 companies in the following lines of business: tourism, hotel, restaurant and experience economy.
Reading and study groups
In the beginning of your studies, you will be placed in a study group comprised of 4–5 persons.
The timetable allows for in-depth study with your study group.
We strongly advise that you give high priority to your study group, and that you seek to contribute positively and constructively to your group.
We appreciate close dialogue with all our students.
To this end there are information and feedback meetings with your class where your class coordinator will give information and where we can exchange experiences.
This involves good as well as bad experiences — yours as well as ours.
You are always welcome suggest input for contents of the classes.
The study programme has a student board and each class selects a representative and a substitute representative to sit on the board.
The duty of student board representatives is to maintain a supportive academic and social environment for their fellow students.
You might also say that they act as the mouthpiece for the class to the class coordinator and the programme director.
Student board representatives are invited to join education committee meetings where the study programme is continually developed and optimised.
On graduation, students who sat on the Student Board will receive a document describing their duties in addition to their degree certificate.
Evaluation of teaching and learning activities
You play an important part in our ambition to constantly improve the study programme.
After completing a course module, you will receive an evaluation form in your student e-mail inbox.
It is important that you take your time to answer the questions in the form to let us know what we are doing well and where we have room for improvement!
On a meeting your class coordinator will talk about the results of the “general study conditions” while evaluation of actual lectures will be handled by the relevant lecturer.
Each semester you will be invited to a semester talk.
The talk is usually held with your class coordinator but other lecturers from the team of lecturers may also be in charge. The primary subject of the semester talk is: How do I realize my full potential during my studies?
Through dialogue and coaching, the lecturer will help you optimize your study efforts.
An international environment
Another key aspect of this study programme is that the International Hospitality Management programme is one of the few study programmes at UCN that is made up of Danish as well as international students.
This means that you will be a part of an international and multi-cultural environment.
Through academic and social events you will have the opportunity to gain an insight into other cultures and acquire knowledge that can be useful to your international business career.

Reflective Practice-Based Learning
Common to all our programmes is the focus on educating you for the real world. Our slogan is “Real Life Education”, and we mean this very literally. You will at least be spending a term at a work placement, and we strive to continuously develop our curriculum in collaboration with the professions, we train for.
Another common feature is our great learning environment, in which classroom teaching is key. We combine the academic and social aspects of studying, hereby easing the transition to becoming an independent student. The interaction between theory and practice combined with personal reflection remains the absolute core of all our study programmes – and the basis of our learning approach Reflective Practice-Based Learning.
Getting ready for the future
In the course of your studies you will be inspired to be creative, to explore and to be innovative; and you will learn to look critically at your own learning, your experience, your knowledge and practice. You bring your own values and personality into play, and through reflecting on your own practice you develop your personal judgement and ability to act professionally.

There are several possibilities for giving your education an international twist
During the course of your education at UCN you can go abroad for a certain period of time. You can go on an internship abroad in one or more companies or you can take your studies abroad.
The two kinds of placements can even be combined so you can do both. Be aware that the time spent abroad may not prolong the total duration of your studies in Denmark, however.

Whether you choose to do an internship or to study abroad, you will no doubt develop — personally as well as professionally. You will broaden your horizons and develop your language and professional skills.

- Your subject knowledge, that is, the degree to which you master the knowledge acquired through studies.
- Your work experience, including your work placement.
- Your personal competencies.
