If you would like to help solve problems relating to climate change, flooding caused by cloud bursts, clean drinking water supply, protection of groundwater and the development of the energy supply of the future, then the Supply Engineering degree programme is the right choice for you.


It takes 3½ years to become a supply engineer, and you can choose between three lines of specialisation:

  • Water
  • Waste water
  • District heating

As part of the degree programme, the fifth semester has been set aside for a work placement in a private or public sector company within the utility industry. This gives you an opportunity to test the engineering skills you have already acquired.


Doing an internship is a great way to get first-hand work experience and gain access to the best graduate jobs.

Because the Supply Engineering degree programme is a professional Bachelor’s degree programme, you are required to do an internship in the 5th semester. This will allow you to apply theory to real-world business tasks and practice a number of valuable skills.


You will benefit from working in a real-life environment and gain professional experience relevant to your future career as a Supply Engineer.

Your internship will also improve your employability, as work-readiness is a top priority for employers when they look for graduates to fill vacancies.

The internship has a dual purpose. You will get to know what your professional future holds while you are still preparing for it, and you will make contacts with employers within the field of your study.


You may do the internship in a company of your choice in Denmark or abroad.


The minimum period for a internship is 20 weeks of full-time work.


The degree programme is designed to allow you to work with relevant engineering tasks from the utility industry from day one.

1st SEMESTER: Soil and water 

The overall theme for the first semester is “Soil and Water”. You learn to use the most common principles within landscape design, planning, and project descriptions. You will also learn to build and design underground installations for water, waster-water and district heating.

2nd SEMESTER: Climate and environment 

The overall theme for the second semester is “Climate and Environment”. You will be assigned to evaluate the effects of climate and use collected data in a project context.

3rd. SEMESTER: Land development and construction

The overall theme for the third semester is “Land Development and Construction”. In this semester, you will plan and create a project for digging work in connection with utility lines and evaluate the financial costs. At the same time, you will calculate simple hydraulic conditions in the grid and design routes for the grid.

4th SEMESTER: Supply and distribution

The overall theme for the fourth semester is “Supply and Distribution”. You will analyse data for a supply area, and make both professional and financial decisions about materials and products in the construction of utility lines.

5th SEMESTER: Internship 

During the fifth semester, you will do a 20-week internship in a Danish or foreign company. You will get a chance to try out your theoretical knowledge in practice, and get a taste of the work you will carry out as a trained utility engineer.

Your internship will give you the experience and knowledge you can use in the remainder of your studies.

6th and 7th SEMESTER: Specialisation and bachelor project 

The overall theme of the sixth and seventh semester is “Specialisation and Bachelor Project”. You can choose to do your specialisation within three areas:

  • Water Supply,
  • Wastewater,
  • District Heating.

During the 7th semester more than half of your time will be set aside for your Bachelor Project, in which you will typically work together with a utility company or consulting engineer company.


The teaching is a mixture of classroom lessons and project work, in which theory is typically taught through assignments, cases and projects. You will experience a practice-oriented form of teaching rather than lectures.

You will work both individually and in groups, and always in a project-oriented manner.


In each semester you will work on a cross-disciplinary project that combines the different subjects taught during the semester in a final project. You will notice your project work skills improving from one semester to the next.


Most projects will be carried out in co-operation with companies. Academy works closely with the utility sector, so you will be able to approach your project work from a practical angle.


To enrich the study experience and nurture cultural diversity on campus, we encourage our students to study abroad and welcome foreign students from partner institutions.

VIA University College has cooperation agreements with approximately 200 institutions in 33 countries in Europe as well as overseas.

This means that you have the opportunity to choose to study for one semester at one of our partner institutions in another country.

You may also choose to do your internship in an international company in another part of the world. Both possibilities give you an opportunity to experience the way of life in another culture.

Today’s business world is a global marketplace, so having a study abroad experience can be positive for your CV.


The hallmark of the programme is its international focus and the inter-disciplinary skills that make you attractive to a wide range of companies. As a graduate supply engineer you can work in utility companies, consulting engineering firms, firms of contractors or in the public sector.

You will have plenty of opportunities to work abroad, where the lack of clean water and wastewater processing is a growing global challenge that requires skilled engineers.


When you graduate as a Supply Engineer, you will have opportunities to continue with a Master in Denmark or other countries.


Our double-degree programme also offers the possibility of obtaining two degrees in almost the same time as it would take to do two separate degrees.
