1st SEMESTER: Building plot and 1-2 storey dwellings

Your first semester project will be a “single-family house,” covering all aspects relating to situating the house on a plot, specifying and arranging rooms, selecting materials, selecting building services, costing, time management, etc.

2nd SEMESTER: Land plot and single family house

The project methodology in the second semester will be applied to the following themes: Industry and Technology, International Project Week and Designing a two-storey single-family house with a basement.

3rd SEMESTER: Industrialised building design

The overall theme in the 3rd semester is “Industrialised building design”. As with the previous two semesters, the dominant work method will be project work – carried out as group work whenever possible.

4th SEMESTER – internship and final project

In the 4th semester of the Construction Technology programme, students go on internship and prepare a final project, which is also their examination.

You can choose between two career pathways: production or construction project management.

Production focuses on employment with manufacturers or suppliers of building products and construction products.

Construction project management focuses on employment with architects or tradesmen and construction companies.

The internship teaches you things that you can’t learn in a classroom.

An important part of the programme is the opportunity to put theory-based results into use in the ‘real world’ by having one or more periods of internship.

Whatever the direction of your studies, you will enjoy the experience of practical training in a company or public administration and learn things that cannot be taught in a classroom.

We have excellent cooperation partners for internship: lboth local and international companies.

  • Building Design: Architecture and Building Design, Material Science,
  • Structural Design: Structural Design and Mathematics,
  • Building Services: Building Services and Building Physics,
  • Building Planning and Managemen,
  • Land Surveying and Spatial Planning,
  • Geographic Information Systems
  • Communication.

The teaching philosophy consists of a combination of theory lessons, assignments and project work. You will primarily learn theory through practical assignments and case studies.

Your choice of projects will increasingly be influenced by your own interest and abilities.

To enrich the study experience and nurture cultural diversity on campus, we encourage our students to study abroad and welcome foreign students from partner institutions.

VIA University College has cooperation agreements with approximately 200 institutions in 33 countries in Europe as well as overseas.

This means that you have the opportunity to choose to study for one semester at one of our partner institutions in another country.

You may also choose to do your work placement in an international company in another part of the world. Both these possibilities give you the opportunity to experience the way of life in another culture.

A study abroad experience also provides global insight and perspective. Today’s business world is a global marketplace, so having a study abroad experience can be a positive for your CV.

As a building technician you are the site’s unifying leader. You will have the skills to discuss the general principles of construction with architects and builders. At the same time you will be the trademen’s sparring partner when solving technical challenges or choosing materials.

With a degree in construction technology, you can find work in many types of companies related to the construction industry – typically among architects, contractors, builders and manufacturers of building elements.

Several construction technicians have chosen to start their own companies. With your own firm, you can choose to work in precisely those areas you think are most exciting.
